To obtain a new anthraquinone derivative having an antibacterial activity to various bacteria and useful for medicine, especially, a researching nuclei of an antimicrobial agent and medicine.
The compound is expressed by formula I (R is H or OH), for example, the compound of formula II. The compound of formula I is obtained by culturing a strain belonging to genus Verticillium that produces the compound of formula I, in a nutrient medium, collecting from the cultured cell accumulating the compound of formula I in a conventional process. Any of the microorganisms having the capability producing the compound of formula I can be used. A Hyphomycetes Verticillium lecanii Q57371 strain (FERM P-17197) belonging to genus Verticillium separated from soil collected at Yaku island in Kagoshima Japan is enumerated as the microorganism.
