PURPOSE: To obtain a new antibiotic substance AB5366, having antimicrobial activities against fungi or plant pathogenic fungi infecting humans or animal therewith and useful as an antifungal agent, an agricultural and horticultural germicide, etc., by culturing a microorganism, capable of producing the substance AB5366 and belonging to the genus Pycnidiella. CONSTITUTION: This new antibiotic substance AB5366 is a compound of the formula, has antimicrobial activities against fungi or plant pathogenic fungi infecting human or animals therewith and is useful as an antifungal agent for medical use and an agricultural and horticultural germicide effective in control, etc., of Botrytis cinerea of cucumber. The antibiotic substance is obtained by inoculating a microorganism, belonging to the genus Pycnidiella and having the ability to produce the antibiotic substance AB5366 [e.g. Pycnidiella sp. AB5366 strain (FERM P-14662)] into a culture medium, culturing the microorganism on a rotary shaker at 25 deg.C for 5 days by rotation and shaking, producing and accumulating the antibiotic substance AB5366 (salt) in the cultured product and then collecting the antibiotic substance from the cultured product by extraction, etc.
