Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain an antimicrobial protein derived from a larva of an insect belonging to the order Coleoptera and to provide a method for producing the protein and to develop its use.
CONSTITUTION: This antimicrobial protein is induced in the humor of a larva when a body surface of the larva of an insect belonging to the order Coleoptera is injured, has an N-end amino acid sequence of the formula N2N-Ala-Leu-Ser- Pro-Gly-Ala-Pro-Asn-Phe-Pro-Asn-Pro-Gly- and the following properties or an antimicrobial protein having immunologically common antigenicity with the antimicrobial protein. (i) About 7,300-7,800 molecular weight. (ii) Thermal stability (5-10 minutes at 100°C).
