Title:
NEW BRANCHED POLYSACCHARIDE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH06116302
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a branched polysaccharide composed of chemically synthesizable α-anomer and/or β-anomer of glucopyranan, exhibiting excellent hypoglycemic action, having remarkably low toxicity and useful as a hypoglycemic agent for the treatment of diabetes.

CONSTITUTION: A polymer having OH group at C-3 site and expressed by formula I (Bn is benzyl; (n) is integer representing the polymerization degree) is made to react with a glucose derivative of formula II to obtain a polysaccharide derivative having a glucose branch at C-3 site and expressed by formula III ((m) is same as (n)). The polysaccharide derivative is debenzylated and, as necessary, one of the anomers is exclusively decomposed to collect an α- or β-anomer and obtain the α-anomer or the β-anomer of 3-O- glucopyranosyl-(1→6)-α-D-glucopyranan expressed by formula IV and having a number average molecular weight of 3,000-50,000 and a glucose-branch substitution degree of 0.1-0.9, and their mixture, and a hypoglycemic agent containing this polysaccharide as an active component is provided.
