Abstract:

To obtain a new carbonyl reductase useful for producing an alcohol such as 3,4-difluoro-2-((R)-2-hydroxypropyloxy)nitrobenzene as an optically active intermediate for producing an antimicrobial compound.

The new carbonyl reductase is derived from a bacterium of the genus Leifsonia. A DNA encoding the same is also provided. An optically active alcohol such as 3,4-difluoro-2-((R)-2-hydroxypropyloxy)nitrobenzene is produced by asymmetrically reducing a carbonyl group-containing compound using the carbonyl reductase. The carbonyl reductase has excellent activity and stereoselectivity.
