To provide a new carotenoid derivative excellent in hydrophilic property and oral absorption.SOLUTION: A carotenoid derivative in formula (1) is provided. (in the formula, X represents a carbonyl group or a methylene group, and Z1 and Z2 are the same or different, and represent a functional group in which an element selected from O, N and S atoms is bonded to a ring.) A carotenoid related compound expressed thereby, its pharmacologically acceptable salt, or its pharmacologically acceptable esters or amides have excellent hydrophilic property and oral absorption, and more excellent IL-7 production inhibitory action. With this, they can be used for prevention or as therapeutic agents of diseases related to active oxygen or IL-17 in a dosage form of hydrophilic active ingredients such as an injection, an eye drop, an inhalant and external preparation besides oral medicine.SELECTED DRAWING: None
