To provide a new chemical substance cailluin E produced by the culture of a microorganism belonging to the genus Vibrio and capable of producing cailluin E, having high safety and excellent biodegradability and useful as an antifouling agent for microalgae, a surfactant, etc.
The new chemical substance cailluin E is expressed by formula. It is useful e.g. as an active component of antifouling agent for microalgae, surfactant, etc., for the control of microalgae such as diatom and green algae forming slime on the ship bottom or marine construction and the extermination of red tide composed mainly of diatom, etc. It is also useful as a surfactant, etc., for the microbial bioremediation to dissolve the scarcely soluble contaminating chemical substances in sea or river. The new substance can be produced by culturing a microorganism belonging to the genus Vibrio and capable of producing cailluin E [e.g. Vibrio sp. G1363 (FERM P-17282)] and collecting the objective substance from the cultured product.
