PURPOSE: To obtain a new composition comprising a crosslinked product derived from a water-soluble polysaccharide and biologically active substance(s), from which the biologically active substance(s) can be taken in stably in high efficiency and is excellently sustainedly released to exhibit its long-activity.
CONSTITUTION: A water-soluble polysacccharide (e.g. starch) is crosslinked with an aldehyde in water using an acid chloride as crosslinking catalyst followed by spray drying to obtain the objective composition (microcapsules) which includes at least one kind of biologically active substance in the resultant crosslinked product. The contents of the biologically active substance(s) such as an agrochemical, medicine and/or fertilizer and the crosslinked product derived from the water-soluble polysaccharide are 0.1-80wt.% and 1-99.9wt.%, respectively. This composition can be obtained easily and safely without the need of using any organic solvent; besides, by including one party of the biologically active substances, which is incompatible with the other biologically active substances, into microcapsules, mixed preparations of this active substance can be afforded.
