PURPOSE: To obtain the subject compound useful as an antitumor agent, having inhibitory activity against topoisomerase I, showing strongly inhibitory action on proliferation of various cancerous cells, by culturing a specific bacterium belonging to the genus Microponospora, capable of producing new compound A35,566-A or A35,566-B.
CONSTITUTION: A compound of formula I (molecular formula: C23H28O8. properties of substance: purple powder. molecular weight: 422) or a compound of formula II (molecular formula: C23H20O8. properties of substance: purple powder. molecular weight: 424). The objective compound is obtained by culturing a bacterium belonging to the genus Microponospora, capable of producing new compound A35,566-A or A35,566-B, preferably Microponospora sp. SANK 60,394 strain (FERM BP-4,569) and isolating from the culture solution. The bacterium is separated from soil collected in Nagano Prefecture. For example, a bacterium having morphological characteristics of excellent elongation of main mycelium, no recognition of branched mycelium and formation of spherical or subspherical spores with 0.7-1.0μm size is preferably used.
