NEW MATERIAL:A compound of chloroacetamides shown by formula I (n is 0 or 1; R is H, lower alkyl, lower haloalkyl, cycloalkylmethyl, benzyl, substituted benzyl, lower alkoxyalkyl, tetrahydrofurfryl, lower alkoxycarbonylmethyl, lower dialkylaminoethyl; X and Y are H, halogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, trifluoromethyl or nitro).
EXAMPLE: N-(3,4-Dichlorophenyl)thio-2-chloroacetamide.
USE: Useful as a herbicide, showing high herbicidal effects on various kinds of annual thin-leaf weeds in paddy fields and plowed fields.
PREPARATION: A compound shown by formula II is reacted with a compound shown by formula III in the presence of a base to give a compound shown by formula IV among compounds shown by formula I. The compound shown by formula IV is oxidized to give a compound shown by formula V.
