PURPOSE: To obtain a new compound having inhibiting activity against sphingomyelinase, useful as anti-HIV agent, antidiabetic drug, anti- arteriosclerotic agent, antithrombotic agent, etc., and further useful as an agent for prophylaxis and/or treatment of respiratory diseases, Alzheimer's disease, etc.
CONSTITUTION: This is a compound of the formula, having the following properties: appearance, yellow needle crystal; solubility, soluble in ethanol, ethyl acetate, etc.; color reaction, positive to 50% sulfuric acid and iodine; melting point, 83-86°C; molecular formula, C11H12O3; molecular weight, 192; elemental analysis (determined), C:68.58%, H:6.18%. The compound is obtained by culturing an F-11263-producing bacterial strain belonging to the genus Acremonium [e.g. Acremonium sp. SANK11894 (FERM-BP-4683) as a new bacterium], preferably by deep culture and subsequently extracting the compound from the cultured liquid with an organic solvent.
