Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a new compound effective for imparting non-homeotropic uniform orientation to the surface of a substrate and useful for the crystallization of non-linear optical material and the formation of ultra-thin film.

CONSTITUTION: The compound of formula I [(n) is 1-3; M is Si, Ge, Sn, Zr or Ti; X is hydrolyzable group; R1 is alkylene, etc., which may contain -C=C-, -C≡C- or -O-; R2 is aromatic group; E is -O-, -S-, -N(H)-, etc.], e.g. 1-(trichlorosilyl)-5-(2-naphthoxy)pentane. The compound of formula I can be produced by reacting a compound of formula XR1X with a compound of formula HER2 in a solvent such as acetone in the presence of K2CO3, reacting the obtained compound of formula II with Mg in the presence of ether and reacting the resultant compound of formula III with a compound of formula MX4.
