Abstract:

To provide a method for producing a thiadiazole sulfone compound.

This method is used for producing 2-(methylsulfonyl)-5-(trifluoromethyl)-1,3,4-thiadiazole in the presence of an appropriate oxidizing agent by catalytic oxidation; wherein the oxidizing agent is pref. hydrogen peroxide; the catalytic system to be used for the oxidation reaction is a mixture of boric acid and glacial acetic acid; and the molar ratio of the glacial acetic acid to 2-(methylthio)-5-(trifluoromethyl)-1,3,4-thiadiazole as the starting material is about 0.1:1 to about 0.5:1.
