To provide a new coumarin compound having high heat resistance and high compatibility, and having absorption in a range from a near-ultraviolet region to a visible short wavelength region.

There is provided a highly heat resistant and highly compatible bicoumarin compound represented by general formula (I) (wherein R1 to R7 each independently represents a hydrogen atom or a specified substituent). Examples of the bicoumarin compound include 7-diethylaminoethyl-4'-3,6'-bicoumarin. The bicoumarin compound is highly heat resistant, and readily-soluble in synthetic resin materials, and thereby being added to a polyimide-based resin or a polycarbonate-based resin as an ultraviolet absorbing material, an ultraviolet screening material, an ultraviolet detecting material or the like. The screening effect of the bicoumarin compound enables double sided simultaneous exposure, thereby achieving high operation efficiency.
