To provide a novel cycloalkenylcarboxylic acid, a novel bicycloalkenylcarboxylic acid and their salts, which can be suitably used, similarly to rosin, as compounding ingredients for an antifouling coating material and, in comparison with the rosin, can be supplied more stably and have qualities more uniform.
The followings are provided: a novel cyclic carboxylic acid formed by the addition reaction of an unsaturated carboxylic acid and a conjugated diene compound, and its metal salt; the compounding ingredient (A) for the antifouling coating material, composed of at least one compound selected from among the novel cyclic carboxylic acid, a derivative (excluding a metal salt) of the cyclic carboxylic acid, a metal salt of the cyclic carboxylic acid, and a metal salt of the cyclic carboxylic acid derivative; and an antifouling coating material composition containing the compounding ingredient (A) and a copolymer (B) for a self-polishing type antifouling coating material. Thereby, an antifouling coating film can be formed, the environmental load of which is small and which wears away homogeneously at a specified rate over a long period, can maintain excellent antifouling performance over a long period, and is applicable to ships, or the like, used in a high-fouling sea area.
