To obtain the subject new compound useful as a resin raw material such as diisocyanate, raw material for thermoplastic resins such as polyamide, raw material for thermosetting resins such as epoxy resin, a curing agent, etc.
This diamine compound is expressed by formula I (R is a 1-20C saturated hydrocarbon group), e.g. 4-octadecyloxy-1,3-diaminocyclohexane. The compound of formula I can be produced by hydrogenation a 4-substituted-1,3- dinitrobenzene of formula II in a reaction solvent in the presence of a catalyst, such as a Raney-Ni catalyst. The amount of the catalyst is usually 0.1-10 pts.wt., preferably 0.5-5 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. of the starting compound of formula II and that of the reaction solvent is usually 10-2,000 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. of the raw material. The reduction is carried out usually at 50-180°C (preferably 70-150°C) for 0.5-100hr (preferably 1-10hr) under a hydrogen pressure of 1-200kg/cm2, preferably 2-100kg/cm2, especially 10-100kg/cm2.
