Abstract:

To epoxidize a perfluoroolefin under mild condition in which yield to an easily purifiable state by using an N-oxide of a t-amine or iodosobenzene as an oxidizing agent.

A perfluoroolefin of formula II (X1 to X4 are each F or a 1-5C perfluoroalkyl) is epoxidized without using a solvent or in a solvent such as acetonitrile by using (A) a t-amine N-oxide of formula I [R1 to R3 are each a 1-10C alkyl, a (substituted) aromatic group or an arbitrary combination of these groups are bonded with each other through O or N to form a 5 to 7-membered ring] (e.g. trimethylamine-N-oxide) or (B) iodosobenzene. The reaction is carried out as necessary in the presence of an oxidizing agent capable of oxidizing the t-amine of the component A.
