PURPOSE: To obtain a compound having an absorption in the near-infrared region and excellent solvent solubility by reacting a specified fluorophthalocyanine compound with a specified alcohol or thiol.
CONSTITUTION: A fluorophthalocyanine compound of formula I [wherein Y is a group of formula II, III or IV or the like; A is 1-8C alkyl; Z is H, 1-4C alkyl, 1-4C alkoxyl or the like; D and E are each 1-4C alkyl; p, q and f are each 0-2; i, j, k and l are each 1 or 2; M is null, a metal (oxide) or a metal halide] is reacted with an alcohol or thiol of the general formula: XH (wherein X is a group of formula II, III or IV or the like) to obtain a fluorophthalocyanine compound of formula V (wherein X1 to X4, Y1 to Y4 and W1 to W4 are each a group of formula II, III or IV or the like; and a, b, c and d are each 0-2). This compound is useful in the production of, e.g. an optical recording medium.
