Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a hexacarboxylic acid as an excellent aqueous property imparting modifier to a polyester-based aqueous coating compound, containing carboxyl groups at both ends of g polyethylene glycol.
CONSTITUTION: A hexacarboxylic acid shown by the formula (A)-O(CHCHO),-(A') (A and A' are groups shown by formula I and formula II respectively; (n) is 10-M 500) obtained by condensing through dehydration a polyethylene glycol with 1,2,3,4-butanetetracarboxylic acid or a monohydride thereof. Both the components are used so as to give an equivalent ratio of carboxyl group/ hydroxyl group of 3-12, preferably 4-6. 5-200wt.% water is added to the butanetetracarboxylic acid the monohydride thereof.
