Abstract:

To provide a substance having an action to enhance the activity of a -lactam antibiotic substance on MRSA and an agent for the treatment of infectious diseases caused by multiple drug resistant bacteria including MRSA and -lactam antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

A microbial strain (FERM BP-10834) belonging to the genus Streptomyces and producing KB-3346-5 substance is cultured in a medium to accumulate the KB-3346-5 substance in the cultured product and the KB-3346-5 substance is collected from the cultured product. The resultant substance enhances the effect of a -lactam antibiotic substance used as an antibacterial agent by using in combination with the -lactam and, accordingly, it is useful as a treating agent for infectious diseases caused by multiple drug resistant bacteria including MRSA and -lactam antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
