Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing 1,2-diols by reaction of an olefin with hydrogen peroxide in high efficiency, high selectivity and in easy recovery and reuse of a catalyst without using a strong acid or a strong base which becomes cause of corrosion of the apparatus.
SOLUTION: This method for producing 1,2-diols comprises reacting olefins with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of a polymer compound having sulfo group.
