To provide a simple and new method for producing a carbonyl compound without causing a recognizable side reaction, comprising reacting the corresponding primary or secondary alcohol with semi-critical or supercritical state water without using an oxidizing agent or catalyst such as a heavy metal.
This new method for producing the carbonyl compound comprises reacting the primary or secondary alcohol with the semi-critical or supercritical state water to modify the alcohol into the carbonyl compound. Preferably, the method for producing the carbonyl compound from the corresponding primary or secondary alcohol comprises placing the primary or secondary alcohol and the water in a reaction pipe and then heating or pressurizing the alcohol-water mixture liquid to convert the water into the semi-critical or supercritical state. Especially, the method for producing the carbonyl compound is carried out in an oxygen-free state.
