To obtain a new microbial strain having cellulose degradation performance and to provide a using method therefor and a growth promotion method.
The new microbial strain is a strain which has cellulose degradation performance, comprises a base sequence of 16S rRNA gene exhibiting ≥90% homology to a sequence described by sequence number 1 and/or a base sequence of a cellulase gene exhibiting ≥80% homology to a sequence described by a sequence number 2 and belongs to genus Clostridium. Typically, Clostridium sp. JC3 strain (FERM P-19026) may be cited as the strain. The new microbial strain is used together with an acid fermentation and a methane fermentation bacteria in a cellulose-containing organic waste and/or waste water so that the cellulose contained in the organic waste and/or waste water is decomposed and recovered as methane gas.
