Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a new compound being a metal complex liquid crystal capable of exhibiting a nematic liquid crystal phase and useful for electronic devices and molecular elements.
CONSTITUTION: A compound of formula I (R is 4-20C alkyl; R1 is 2-3C alkyl; M is transition metal), e.g. a compound of formula II. This compound of formula I is obtained by dissolving, e.g. the compound of formula III in a polar solvent at about 50°C and adding 28wt.% aqueous ammonium hydroxide solution and further hydrate of a metallic salt thereto and reacting these components.
