PURPOSE: To obtain a new oligosaccharide derivative useful as a separating agent, etc., for chromatography by oxidizing a reducing terminal of an optically active oligosaccharide, subjecting the oxidized terminal to chemical treatment with a silane treating agent containing an amino group to introduce a substituent group into a hydroxyl group and then binding the terminal to silica gel surface.
CONSTITUTION: An aldehyde group of a reductive terminal of an oligosaccharide (e.g. maltopentose) having an optical activity is oxidized with an oxidizing agent to form a lactone and this lactone part is chemically bound to a silane treating agent having an amino group (e.g. 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane) or the lactone part on reducing terminal side of the oligosaccharide is chemically bound to an amino group part of an amine compound having a reactive group other than in addition to the amino group and then the amino compound is chemically bound to the silane treating agent. Further, substituent groups are introduced into part or all of hydroxy group of the oligosaccharide and further, the substituent group-introduced oligosaccharide is made to react with silane-treated silica gel to provide the objective new oligosaccharide derivative expressed by formula I [R is Ra (Ra is H, alkyl, phenyl, etc.), formula II, etc; m1 is 1-8; m2 is 1-20].
