Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a new oligosaccharide bound to N-acetylneuramic acid, capable of increasing mineral absorbing property by oral administration and useful for preventing and treating osteoporosis and other bone diseases.
CONSTITUTION: An oligosaccharide bound to N-acetylneuramic acid of the formula (Gal)n-Neu5Ac [Gal is galactose; Neu5Ac is N-acetylneuramic acid; (n) is an integral of 1-2]. The oligosaccharide is blended to provide a machine, a food or beverage or a feed enhanced in absorption of mineral. The oligosaccharide bound to N-acetylneuramic acid can be produced by reacting lactic acid and N-acetylneuramic acid with β-galactosidase to carry out galactose transfer reaction.
