Abstract:

To provide a photocatalyst not almost absorbing solar rays and capable of decomposing a harmful organic substance causing environmental pollution in a wide wavelength region with high use efficiency.

The photocatalyst comprises amorphous quartz glass subjected to hydrohalogenic acid treatment. A mixture of the harmful organic substance and oxygen is brought into contact with the photocatalyst while irradiated with radiation to optically decompose and detoxify the harmful organic substance.
