Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain the polyester excellent in heat resistance, stiffness, etc., and useful as an engineering plastic by reacting an easily dihydroxyphenanthrene dihalide with a specific bisphenol and CO.
CONSTITUTION: This polyester having (D) repeating units of formula II is produced by reacting (A) 2,7-dibromo-9,10-dihydroxyphenanthrene with (B) a bisphenol of formula I (R1, R2 are H, 1-2C alkyl) and (C) CO in the presence of a Pd-phosphine complex and a basic substance. The polyester preferably has an average mol.wt. of 1500-200000, especially 10000-50000. The basic substance in the component A is 1,8-diazabicyclo[5,4,0]-7-undecene, etc.
