Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a water-repellent functional polymer.

CONSTITUTION: This polymer is derived by replacing at least one hydroxylic hydrogen atom of a polymeric carrier compound with a group represented by the formula:-CnH2n+1 (wherein n is an integer of 8 or greater). The functional groups imparting water repellency are introduced at a low degree of substitution, and therefore this polymer can fully develop water repellency while retaining the functions inherent in the carrier compound. It is also excellent in the fastness to washing deleterious to the properties.
