To provide a new protein having activity of transmitting K+ ions, etc., to provide a DNA encoding the protein, to provide a method for screening a compound promoting or inhibiting the activity of the protein, and to provide the compound obtained by the method for screening the compound.

This protein which has an amino acid sequence identical or substantially identical to the amino acid sequence expressed by a specific sequence is useful as a diagnostic marker or the like of, for example, gastrointestinal diseases, immunological diseases associated with thymic disorders, pancreatic diseases, diabetes, genital diseases, central nervous diseases, circulatory diseases, muscular diseases, and cancers. The compound which is obtained by the method for screening the compound and promotes or inhibits the activity of the protein is used, for example, as a prophylactic or remedy for the diseases.
