NEW MATERIAL:A quaternary ammonium compound shown by formula I or formula II [R is 2-24C straight-chain, branched alkylene, alicyclic alkylene, aralkylene or group shown by formula III (p and q are positive number, respectively; R' is 1-24C straight-chain or branched chain alkyl, alkenyl or aralkyl; R" is 1-5C alkyl or aralkyl; X- is anion; n is 2-50].
USE: Useful as a softener for fibers, hair, etc., and a surfactant for antistatic uses. A compound capable of wholly satisfying flexibility, water absorbing properties and antistatic performances.
PREPARATION: A quaternary amino-alcohol shown by formula IV or formula V is quaternized with a quaternizing agent to give a compound shown by formula I or formula II. Methyl chloride, benzyl chloride, etc., may be used as the quaternizing agent.
