To obtain a new quinidine derivative useful as a reagent for the fluorescence polarization immunoassay of quinidine in blood serum.
This quinidine derivative is expressed by formula I (wherein, L is a 1-10C hydrocarbon coupling group capable of having zero to three hetero- atom(s); F is amino, carboxyl, sulfhydryl, imino, maleimide), e.g. (9S)-4-[(9- hydroxycinchonan-6'-yl)oxy]-1-iminobutyl-[BTG] as a quinidine immunogen of formula II. The exemplified compound is obtained by the demethylation of a quinidine of formula II to obtain 6-hydroxycinchonine and by the alkylation of it with an alkylating agent such as 4-bromobutyronitrile or the like to obtain (9S)-4-[(9-hydroxycinchonan-6'-yl)oxy]butanenitrile, followed by treating it with chlorine gas in methanol to obtain methyl (9S)-4-(9-hydroxycinchonan-6'-y1) butaneimidate and by reacting it with bovine thyroglobulin (BTG).
