PURPOSE: To obtain a new silanol capable of resolving and having high optical purity by utilizing Sharpless reaction.
CONSTITUTION: A compound of the formula [R is 1-8C ((substituted)alkyl, alicyclic residue or (substituted)aryl; R1 is 1-4C alkyl, with the proviso that R is not same as R1], e.g. cyclohexenyl-methylphenylsilanol. This compound of the formula is obtained by reacting, e.g. a compound of the formula R1SiX3, (X is halogen) with a compound of the formula RMgX, preferably in a molar ratio of 1:0.9, preferably at 0-20°C, for 3-8hr to afford a compound of the formula RR1SiX2, reacting this compound of the formula RR1SiX2 with a compound of the formula C-C6H9M (C-C6H9 is 1-cyclohexen-l-yl; M is alkyl metal), preferably in a molar ratio of 1:0.9 in a solvent, preferably under reflux for 20-24hr to give a compound of RR1(C-C6H9)SiX and hydrolyzing the compound of RR1(C- C6H9)SiX.
