To obtain the subject material having high resistance to external stimulation such as ultraviolet ray or oxygen and reflecting light of a specific wavelength by using a polymeric liquid crystal material containing a constant mesogen group, a chiral compound group and a terminal chain.
This light-controlling material uses a random copolymer comprising monomer components of formulae I and II (X1 and X2 are each H or CH3; A is a flexible chain; R1 is a terminal chain; B is a chiral compound group; M is a mesogen group). Preferably, the material further contains a compound of formula III (X3 is H or CH3; R2 is a terminal chain) and a molar ratio of the monomer components of the formulae I to III is made to 0.30-0.98 of the monomer of the formula I, 0.01-0.69 of the monomer of the formula II, 0.01-0.50 of the monomer of the formula III and a total of the molar ratios of the three components is made to 1.
