To obtain a halogen-free stable transition metal compound having a metallocycle structure and useful as a catalyst component for polymerizing olefins to produce polyolefins containing no halogen.
A new transition metal compound of formula I [M1 is a metal atom in the group IVB in the periodic table; M2 is a metal atom in the group IIIA in the periodic table; R1 and R2 are each (substituted) cyclopentadienyl or (substituted)indenyl, R1 and R2 may be bound to each other through a 1-18C hydrocarbon and/or a silylene; R3-R8 are each H or a 1-18C hydrocarbon; R7 and R8 may be bound to each other to form one or more cyclic hydrocarbon groups]. The transition metal compound is useful as a catalyst component for polymerizing olefins to produce halogen-free clean polyolefins, etc. The transition metal compound is obtained by reacting a compound of formula III [R15, R16 are each a 1-24C hydrocarbon; 0≤(p)≤4] with a compound of formula III [0≤(m)≤3] and a compound such as (substituted) indene.
