NEW MATERIAL: Compds. represented by formula I (wherein Ra is 18C or less alkyl or 14C or less aryl; n is 0, 1 or 2: Rb is 18C alkyl or 14C alkyl; R is H, 8C alkyl or alcohol residue used for synthesizing a pyrethrinoid compd.).

EXAMPLE: (1R,Cis)-3-[(E)-3-t-butoxy-2-(t-butylsulfonyl)-3-oxo-1-propenyl]-2,2- dimethylcyclopropanecarboxylic acid(S)-α-cyano-3-phenoxybenzyl.

USE: Synthesis of bioactive compds.

PREPARATION: A compd. of formula II (wherein n is 0, 1 or 2) is reacted with a compd. of formula III in an alkaline medium to obtain a compd. of I when the compd. of formula III is not a lactone of (1R,Cis)-3-(dihydroxymethyl)-2,2- dimethylcyclopropane-carboxylic acid.
