Title:
NICKEL ELECTRODE AND MANUFACTURE THEREOF
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH0574482
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a high temperature sodium-nickel chloride battery in which nickel positive electrode utilization efficiency exceeding 30% is achieved and which has high energy density and high output density.

CONSTITUTION: Nickel foil or a nickel wire is fabricated by the melt spin method. The thickness (or diameter) of the foil or the wire is specified at above 10μm and below 200μm. A nickel electrode is formed by sintering method using the foil. The nickel positive electrode has an appropriate surface area (per unit weight). Since the fine structure of the electrode is uniform, charge and discharge reactions at the nickel electrode uniformly progress and conductivity is secured for almost the whole part of the electrode. The utilization efficiency of the nickel is enhanced by the above-mentioned two reasons.
