Abstract:

To produce a niobium base composite material excellent in tensile strength, compressive strength and creep strength in a superhigh temperature region and also having toughness in the range from ordinary temperature to high temperature.

This niobium silicide dispersed type niobium base composite material contains 5 to 20 at.% Si, 5 to 30 at.% Mo, 5 to 15 at.% W, and the balance substantial Nb. Moreover, in the material, niobium silicide being a dispersed phase is mainly Nb5Si3 and also, the niobium silicide has a mutually connected network structure. Moreover, the formed body of the material is produced by a hot press sintering-heat treating method, a discharge plasma sintering method or a melting-solidifying method in a water-cooled die.
