To obtain nitrogen-containing metal powder having large specific surface area and uniformly containing a proper amount of nitrogen within the metal with high productivity and to provide a solid electrolytic capacitor having high capacitance, reduced leakage current and excellent long-term reliability.
The powder is that of the nitrogen-containing metal, and the ratio W/S of the amount of contained nitrogen W[ppm] to the specific surface area S[m2/g] measured by BET method ranges from 500 to 3,000. The powder can be manufactured by using a method where, in reducing a metallic salt containing the metal by allowing the metallic salt to react with a reducing agent in molten diluent salt 14 to form the metal, nitrogen-containing gas is introduced into the space touching the reactant melt containing the metallic salt, the reducing agent and the diluent salt 14 to form the metal and simultaneously incorporate the nitrogen into the metal.
