PURPOSE: To obtain both a nitrogen oxide decomposing catalyst capable of efficiently removing nitrogen oxide with a small amount at a lower temperature and a producing method thereof.
CONSTITUTION: A nitrogen oxide decomposing catalyst is obtained by adding at least one kind of transition metal compound at 0.1-30mol% for ceramic composition to this ceramic composition containing metallic compound and making this mixture to wet precursor gel and pulling out an organic solvent present in the pores of gel to form porous gel. The nitrogen oxide decomposing catalyst can be produced by performing extraction of the organic solvent from the gel pores while keeping this organic solvent as supercritical fluid. The transition metal compound is uniformly clispersed and carried on a porous body produced of the ceramic composition, namely on the surface of aerogel.
