To provide a noble gas fluorescent lamp which can be arbitrarily designed in illuminance distribution in an axial direction without accompanying a side effect.
The noble gas fluorescent lamp has an arc tube in which a noble gas is filled and a phosphor layer is continuously formed throughout the nearly total length on the inner face, and has one of electrodes formed continuously in a longitudinal direction outside the arc tube and the other electrode is formed between one of the electrode and the other electrode through a dielectric, and discharge is performed between one electrode and the other electrode through the dielectric, and thereby, excimer light emission is performed in the arc tube. A recessed part which protrudes in the center direction of the arc tube is formed at the light extraction part of the arc tube. Furthermore, the recessed part is formed opposed to an electrode formation part so as to protrude in the center direction of the arc tube. Furthermore, the recessed part is formed so as to protrude centered on the tube axis throughout the all circumference of the arc tube.
