PURPOSE: To move a generated noiseband to the upper end or the lower end of a picture plane to drive out the noise band from the center by stopping completely a capstan motor with a detected CTL pulse by using it as a trigger a prescribed time after to set the still mode state.

CONSTITUTION: After a capstan motor 8 is stopped temporatily, the capstan motor 8 is driven interruptedly by a driving pulse 400 which is so adjusted that a prescribed extent of movement of a tape is obtained with one driving pulse, and a positive pulse of a CTL pulse 500 is detected during this interrupted driving, and the tape is stopped completely to set the still mode state a prescribed time after the detection of the CTL pulse 500 in a CTL pulse detector 5. Thus, the moise band generatd in the still mode is moved to the upper end or the lower end of the picture to drive out it from the center of picture, and a picture plane easy to see are always obtained.
