To provide a battery having a high capacity and capable of restricting the cycle deterioration by using the metal material selected in the complex compound, which is mainly composed of a compound selected from among specified elements, and the mixture of these compound and obtained by heat treating the compound capable of storing and discharging the Li ion after the heat treatment, and having a specified mean grain size in the secondary grains or the primary grains of the compound.
The positive electrode active material or the negative electrode active material is made of the metal material, carbonaceous material and graphite material. The metal material is obtained by heat treating a complex compound mainly composed of a compound such as the oxide and the sulfide of an element selected from among group Ia, group IIa, titanium, etc., and a compound selected from the mixtures of these compounds and capable of storing and discharging the Li ion after the heat treatment, and the mean particle diameter of the secondary particles of the compound is set at 10 μm or less, or the mean particle diameter of the primary particles is set at 500 nm or less, and a non-aqueous secondary battery is thereby formed. Desirably, a ratio of the metal material to the carbonaceous material and the graphite material is set at 10-65 wt.% in the whole of the negative electrode active material at 100 wt.%.
