This power transmission apparatus comprises a power transmitter 1 and a power receiver 2, such that a primary coil 16 is coupled electromagnetically to a secondary coil 21 so that the transmitter 1 transmits power to the power receiver 2. The secondary coil 21 includes a magnetic body 31. The power transmitter 1 is provided with a power supplying means for supplying power to the primary coil 16, and a self-inductance detecting means for detecting a change in self-inductance of the primary coil 16, when the power supplying means starts power supplying to the primary coil 16, and the power supply operation of the power supplying means at the start of power feeding is decided, on the basis of a result of detection of the self-inductance detecting means.
