Title:
NON-FOGGING COVER FOR INSTRUMENT PANEL OF MOTORCYCLE, MOTORCYCLE EQUIPPED WITH THE COVER, AND FOGGING-PREVENTING METHOD FOR THE COVER
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH09229724
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To prevent fogging or shading by moisture-condensed water or water drops, by setting a surface layer on the inner face of a base material of an instrument panel cover which contains substantially transparent photocatalytic particles.

A surface layer containing substantially transparent, e.g. photocatalytic titanium oxide particles is provided at least on the inner surface of an instrument panel cover of motorcycle formed out of glass, plastic or the like transparent body. When the surface layer has a thickness of not larger than 0.4μm, the cover is prevented from being cloudy by the irregular reflection of light. If the thickness is not larger than 0.2μm, the cover is prevented from taking color as a result of the interference of light. The surface of the surface layer exhibits hydrophilic nature in accordance with the excitation of the photocatalyst, thereby preventing fogging or shading by condensed water of adhering moisture or water drops. If silica or a solid super strong acid., etc., is further contained in the surface later, the surface is easy to be highly hydrophilic with a dampening angle close to 0° and at the same time, improved in hydrophilic retentivity when kept in a dark place.
