PURPOSE: To easily handle a tape type optical fiber by arraying breadthwise a group of optical switch elements for control which are formed longitudinally to the length direction of the optical fiber.
CONSTITUTION: Optical switch elements 1 for control are each formed by forming two waveguides 2, i.e. normal waveguide 2a and branch waveguide 2b for detouring, and an electrode 3 for control is provided additionally to the coupling part between the waveguides 2a and 2b. Plural elements are arranged breadthwise on a base plate 4 and the tape type fiber F is connected to the end surfaces of the waveguides 2 of the optical switch element group S in opposition relation. When its is connected, the element group S is put in a housing 5 and optical fiber insertion holes 6 are bored at corresponding positions of the housing 5. Then, the fibers F can be connected by one touch only by being inserted into the holes 6.
