To provide a nonaqueous electrolyte battery which can restrain a rise in internal resistance due to a passive film in an alkali metallic negative electrode, and degradation in charging and discharging efficiency due to generation of dendrites by uneven electrode reaction.
Salt to be dissolved in electrolyte is dispersed on or in the surface of an a negative electrode 4 which uses alkali metal as an active material, and after formation of a battery, or in the course of a charging and discharging cycle, the salt is dissolved. By dissolving the salt, an electrochemically active electrode surface is exposed, therefore, it is possible to restrain the rise in the internal resistance of the battery. Uniform battery reaction is generated over the whole electrode, therefore, it is possible to restrain generation of dendrites even if the charging and discharging cycle is repeated.
