To provide a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery superior in safety.

The nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery comprises: a cylindrical battery case having one end closed and an opening; an electrode assembly having a positive electrode, a negative electrode and a separator; and a nonaqueous electrolyte, provided that the electrode assembly and the nonaqueous electrolyte are housed in the battery case. The nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery further comprises: a sealing material for sealing up the opening of the battery case; an exhaust valve provided in a bottom face of the battery case or the sealing material for exhausting gas inside the battery case to outside; and a dielectric plate disposed in a portion over or under the electrode assembly on the side opposite to the exhaust valve. The dielectric plate has, on its face on the side of the electrode assembly, a protruding part extending from its periphery to the center thereof. The nonaqueous electrolyte includes at least one cyclic ether compound selected from 1,3-dioxane, 1,3-dioxolane and their derivatives by 0.1-5.0 mass% to the nonaqueous electrolyte.
