PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery which enables the suppression of "gas generation at charge and discharge in a typical service temperature range", which is a problem of a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery arranged by use of a positive electrode active material whose average potential at lithium desorption and entry is no lower than 4.5 V (vs. Li/Li) and below 4.9 V (vs. Li/Li), and a negative electrode active material whose average potential at lithium desorption and entry is no lower than 0.3 V (vs. Li/Li) and below 2.0 V (vs. Li/Li).SOLUTION: A nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery comprises: a positive electrode arranged by use of a positive electrode active material as described above; a negative electrode arranged by use of a negative electrode active material as described above; and a nonaqueous electrolyte which is present between the positive and negative electrodes. The nonaqueous electrolyte contains a phosphate compound expressed by the following general formula (1): P(OR)(OR)(OR) (1) (where R, Rand Reach represent an alkyl group with C1-C20, an alkenyl group with C2-C20, an alkynyl group with C2-C20, an aryl group with C6-C20, a heteroaryl group with C4-C20, an aralkyl group with C7-C20, or a heteroaralkyl group with C4-C20, which may be identical to each other or not; the alkyl group, the alkenyl group, the alkynyl group, the aryl group, the heteroaryl group, the aralkyl group and the heteroaralkyl group may have a substituent group).
