To obtain a reliable result of measurement by facilitating the acquisition of a prescribed deformation of a cornea even if eyelid opening is insufficient.
The noncontact type tonometer has a measuring section having a jet means to pressurize and jet a fluid to a cornea, a cornea deformation detection means to detect the deformation condition of the cornea, and an eyelid opening detection means to detect the appropriateness of eyelid opening of an eye to be tested, and measures intraocular pressure by jetting a fluid at the time when the eyelid opening of the eye to be tested is detected by the eyelid opening detection means after the alignment of the measuring section with respect to the eye to be tested ends, and detecting a prescribed deformation by the cornea deformation detection means. The equipment has a first measurement control means to set the pressure of a fluid jetted by the fluid jet means and measure intraocular pressure on the basis of the result of detection by the deformation detection means at a step preceding the prescribed deformation and a second measurement control means to increase the pressure at next measurement time with respect to the pressure of the jet fluid at the time of occurrence of an error when the prescribed deformation measurement error occurs in the measurement by the first measurement control means a prescribed number of times.
